Digital dentistry has become popular and potential in recent decades, especially in Southern and Southeast Asian regions. Taiwan Center for Smart Healthcare Science and Technology in Thailand together with Mahidol University (MU) in Thailand and University of Medicine and Pharmacy at Ho Chi Minh city (UMP HCMC) in Vietnam to co-organized webinar “Digital Dentistry” in monthly serial program International Webinar Series on Smart Healthcare Science and Technology. 

    The webinar provides the latest perspectives from industry, education and research experience of digital dental technologies. Prof. Hui-Huang Hsu, Counsellor & Director, Science and Technology Division Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Vietnam, gave his remark and expressed his expectation for interdisciplinary collaborations and innovations among young researchers and students from Taiwan and Southeast Asia countries.

This webinar was hosted by Prof. Ming-Long Yeh, Chairman of Dept. of Biomedical Engineering NCKU and invited speakers from Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam. Dr. I Ching Fang, Vice President of Codent Technical Industry Co. Ltd, a Taiwanese well-known dental handpiece brand, shared the trends of digital electric handpieces replacing air-driven high-speed handpieces by making no noise, vibration, and providing readable information like torque and RPM.     

    Dr. Pranai Nakaparksin of Dept. of Advanced General Dentistry MU specializes in dental implant and rehabilitation. As a dentist, he introduced how his team develops cone-beam computed tomography and implant planning software to make optimal implant positions planning possible and reproducing dental prosthesis for patients’ future needs. 

    Dr. Hoang Trong Hung, Vice-Dean Faculty of Odonto-Stomatology UMP HCMC shared Vietnam’s challenges and progress in immersing digital dentistry into educating new dentist generation dentists including curriculum revision and dental practice training. He also presents a successful experience of international collaboration on digital dentistry joint training with Taiwan during the Covid-19 pandemic. 

    Asst. Prof. Yung-Chung Chen, School of Dentistry NCKU, specializes in Prosthodontics and focus on the related studies. He and his laboratory use digital technologies and workflows for designing and manufacturing removable partial dentures. Digital workflows can help dentists design more precise and delicate removable prosthesis. With a better designed removable dentures, the complications such as periodontal disease and dental caries are expected to be reduced. It can further benefit rehabilitating patients' chewing function.sian countries.
