ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Dr. Albert Shih

Manufacturing is Professor Shih’s research and education focus. He is an active leader in biomedical manufacturing research - the application of science and technology in manufacturing to advance the safety, quality, and cost of healthcare services. His career goal is to apply science and technology in manufacturing to transform the quality-of-life in an aging society. He led the Biomedical Manufacturing and Design Lab (BMDL), which has built close collaborations with clinicians at Michigan Medicine. Over 10 innovations from BMDL have been licensed to the medical device industry and 4 start-up companies have been initiated. Dr. Shih was the manufacturing R&D engineer at Cummins Inc. for 7 years and an Associate Professor in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at NC State University from 1998-2002. In 2003, he joined Mechanical Engineering at the University of Michigan. He starts serving as the Editor-In-Chief of ASME Journal of Manufacturing Science and Engineering in July 2022.

Dr. Rungsun Rerknimitr

Dr. Rungsun Rerknimitr graduated from Chulalongkorn University, Thailand with honor. He obtained his American Board of Internal Medicine from Rush Medical College, Chicago in 1996. Later, he pursued his Gastroenterology fellowship from Louisiana State University in New Orleans. Before he returned to Thailand, he obtained an ERCP fellowship from Indiana University. He is currently a Professor of Medicine, Chief division of gastroenterology and a Director of the Center of Excellence for Innovation and Endoscopy in Gastrointestinal Oncology, Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok, Thailand. He is also a founding member and past president of the Thai Association of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (TAGE) and also the past chief editor of the Thai Journal of Gastroenterology. He also leads many PhD candidates and post Doc fellows in the Center of Excellence in GI Oncology Endoscopy of Chulalongkorn University. His main research interests are in the field of colorectal cancer including screening, adenoma detection and prediction, quality indexes in colonoscopy and palliative stenting. His other main endoscopic interest is therapeutic ERCP with a special interest in metallic stent clinical application. His extra-endoscopy medical interest is telemedicine and recently added on is artificial intelligence in GI endoscopy.

Dr. Yi-Chun Du

Yi-Chun Du received the B.A. and M.S. degrees in biomedical engineering from Chung Yuan Christian University, Taoyuan, Taiwan, in 2001 and 2003, respectively, and the Ph.D. degree in biomedical engineering from National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), Tainan, Taiwan, in 2008. From 2013 to 2020, he was a Professor with the Department of Electrical Engineering (EE), Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology (STUST), Tainan. He is an Associate Professor with the Department of Biomedical Engineering, NCKU. He leads the Digital Health and Biorobotics Laboratory (DHB Lab), where he focuses on biomedical system design, CT and ultrasound technology, and ambient assisted living (AAL) applications.
