NCKU Launches the First Open-Enrollment Biodesign Summer Course, Driving Global MedTech Innovation and Asian Talent Exchange
The intensive 4-week English-taught program brings together international faculty, students, and a total of 10 Thai professors and researchers to pioneer clinical-driven biomedical solutions.

National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) successfully concluded its inaugural NCKU Biodesign Summer Course 2026, held from June 29th to July 24th, 2026. Marking the first time NCKU has opened its renowned Biodesign program to external applicants globally, the 4-week intensive English-taught course drew widespread enthusiasm across academia and industry, culminating in a competitive cohort that prominently featured 10 professors and researchers from Thailand.

Organized by NCKU's Medical Device Innovation Center (MDIC) in collaboration with the Stanford-Taiwan Biomedical Fellowship Program (STB), the course empowers participants to identify and solve clinical challenges through an authentic Biodesign innovation framework.
The 4-week curriculum covered six core modules:

Clinical Needs Finding: Direct clinical observation to discover unaddressed healthcare needs.

Medical Device Innovation: Translating clinical insights into conceptual solution architectures.

Prototyping & Design: Hands-on engineering and functional prototype building.

Industry Visits & Sharing: Field trips to leading Taiwanese MedTech companies and hubs.

Startup Insights: Direct mentoring on IP, regulatory affairs, and business modeling.
