Joint Event |TTSTC, NCKU and CMU explore further collaboration on chip- based innovation and digital health through bilateral workshop
National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) and Chiang Mai University (CMU) co-hosted a two-day joint event from November 4 to November 5 to strengthen academic collaboration and accelerate innovation in semiconductor technology and digital health. The event brought together faculty leaders, researchers, and clinical professionals from both institutions to explore future cooperation in interdisciplinary research and talent cultivation.
The NCKU delegation was led by Chair Professor Fong-Chin Su, Executive Director of the Taiwan–Thailand Science and Technology Center (TTSTC), along with Distinguished Professor Wei-Chou Hsu, Interim Dean of the Academy of Innovative Semiconductor and Sustainable Manufacturing (AISSM), National Cheng Kung University. CMU's delegation was led by Professor Nipon Theera-Umpon from the Faculty of Engineering, representing CMU's commitment to advancing international academic partnerships.

The event featured two key thematic sessions:
Chip-Based Innovation Session
The session centered on the latest advancements in semiconductor technologies, chip solutions, and the establishment of collaborative frameworks between the industry and academia. The discussions highlighted current trends and innovations in electrical engineering and semiconductor technology, fostering an exchange of insights and expertise within the field.

Esteemed speakers include:
- Wei-Chou Hsu, Professor, Electrical Engineering, Semiconductor Manufacturing Technology; Interim Dean of AISSM, NCKU
- Ukrit Mankong, Associate Professor and Assistant Dean, Department of Electrical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, CMU
- Chung-Ho Chen, Professor, Electrical Engineering, Integrated Circuit Design, AISSM, NCKU
- Doldet Tantraviwat, Associate Professor; Department of Electrical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, CMU
- Yu-Ming Hsieh, Assistant Professor, Semiconductor Packaging and Testing, AISSM, NCKU
- Suruk Udomsom, Researcher, Department of Electrical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, CMU
Digital Health Session
Engaging clinical experts, including physicians, physical therapists, occupational therapists, and specialists in biomedical engineering, paves the way for innovative and transformative solutions in healthcare.

Esteemed speakers include:
- Jun-Neng Roan, M.D., Professor, Department of Surgery and Chair, School of Medicine, NCKU
- Chawan Manaspon, Assistant Professor (Biomedical Engineering), Biomedical Engineering Institute, CMU
- Hsiu-Yun Hsu, Clinical Professor, Department of Occupational Therapy, NCKU
- Sansanee Auephanwiriyakul, Department of Computer Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, CMU
- Cheng-Feng Lin, Professor, Department of Physical Therapy, NCKU
- Sarawut Kumphune, Associate Professor; Biomedical Engineering Institute(BMEI), CMU
Moreover, during this event. AISSM introduced its academic programs and summer courses, and encouraged Thai students to study in Taiwan. The introduction of these programs received enthusiastic feedback and strengthened students' interest in pursuing academic opportunities at NCKU.
During the event, a CMU student from Chiang Mai University also took the opportunity to discuss their research ideas directly with Prof. Cheng-Feng Lin, seeking academic advice and exploring possibilities for future collaboration.

On the second day of the visit, CMU arranged guided visits to two of its research laboratories, allowing the NCKU delegation to gain a deeper understanding of CMU's research strengths, facilities, and ongoing projects. The lab visits further reinforced the potential for future joint research and created more opportunities for faculty and students to engage in meaningful academic exchange.

The event marks a significant milestone for NCKU and CMU as they build a long-term partnership that links semiconductor technology with digital health innovation, fostering talent development and advancing real-world impact across Taiwan and Thailand.
